After 29 years, the greatest one night reggae and dancehall show on earth, Sting, has attracted hundreds of talented artistes to its stage along with millions of viewers and numerous corporate sponsors.  Fast forward to the 30th staging of this, the most anticipated stage show on the reggae / dancehall calendar, and Sting is now boosted with the return of Magnum Tonic Wine, to fuel Sting 30.

Strategic Advisor to the Sting 30 Board, Howard McIntosh, says this partnership is vital for the survival of the show:  “Corporate partnership is the life and blood of the event.  It is what makes the engine roll.  Required partnerships and support is necessary to making the event and industry survive.  The show suffered over the past 2 years without strategic partners as a partnership allows us to leverage the possibilities that the brand brings.

“This year Magnum Tonic Wine have demonstrated their support for Jamaican culture by coming on board as the presenting sponsor for Sting 30. Magnum is a perfect partner, and we are happy to have them back.  Magnum was on board for our 20th staging and we are all elated that they are back with us as we celebrate our 30th Anniversary and are looking forward to a continued partnership for many years to come.”

Amy Winehouse unlikely to be forgotten for a long time - for her music as much as for her troubles.

Janis Winehouse, mother of 5 time Grammy winning artiste Amy Winehouse was quoted today in British tabloids saying she believed it was “only a matter of time” before her daughter died. The 27-year-old singer was found dead at her London home in Camden on Saturday.

Janis told The Sunday Mirror: “She seemed out of it. But her passing so suddenly still hasn’t hit me”. The mother joins millions around the world who weren’t completely surprised at the beehive hairdo and old-fashioned sailor tattoo singer made famous by her Back to Black Grammy Award Album.

The media report noted that Police said the cause of her death is being treated as “unexplained,” thus rejecting speculation that she died from a drug overdose as “inappropriate,” as purported by social and new media groups. A post-mortem is expected Monday or Tuesday.

The outsized personality and unclassifable talented singer wasn’t afraid of expressing herself and was often times a pacer with attention grabbing headlines from run-ins with the law, embarrassing videos & pictures leaks, stints in hospitals & clinics because of her fixation to alcohol and drugs.

Winehouse who summed up her entire career and life in her 2006 sing, “Rehab“, belting “They tried to make me go to rehab, but I said ‘no, no, no,'” was expected to make a comeback this year. However after a first stop in Belgrade, where booed and jeered, the singer flew home and cancelled what was to be the beginning of her European Tour. Her management noted that she was using the time to recover.

Though Winehouse was always in the spotlight, particularly for her troubled lifestyle, she will be remembered for profoundly beautiful and soul-stirring voice which was hauntingly relateable. Amy’s death however sends a message that addiction is a deadly disease.

As @lesanto said in a tweet: Before you judge, please show me a person who chose to ruin their life – rather than a person who was ruined by life. Can you? #amywinehouse

The challenge today is: Would you rather be super intelligent or extremely good looking?
Bonus: What if you could be both, but not at the same time?

This should have been posted yesterday, but I delayed it because I wanted to know what my Twitter followers were thinking and tweeted it. As expected I got some good conversation just by asking the above question. Majority of the persons opined that they would take super-intelligence over super-beauty, as a matter of fact only one person choose the latter.

I just had a conversation with a friend about this said topic and the question to me was, ‘people still ask those questions’?

I’m afraid they do.

For me it doesn’t takes any amount of brain work to say I’ll take super intelligence over being super beautiful. My answer is grounded in several reasons, chiefly by the adage, “a brain is a terrible thing to waste.” Additionally, beauty fades and as we were taught at school the education we gain through being intelligent “will never decay”. With intelligence you can be concur, do and be whatever you want. Fourthly, I believe brain trumps beauty. I’m drawn to intelligence/brains, I find it sexy. Its like those with intelligence just pulls you in, which is the total opposite of the airheads and often times boring folks considered “beautiful”.

Come to think of it what can you do if you’re extremely beautiful/good looking? Perhaps, sit and look good? Or file my nails and do all sort of beauty treatments?

BONUS -If Could Have Both
Is this where reasoning is test, like in a Maths exam? On a serious not, the bonus part of the challenge makes the question much more interesting to look at.

A blend of both isn’t bad, in fact, that’s what I truly want because beauty without substance personify a lack of true beauty in my eyes. While on the other hand intelligence without a bit of beauty often gets ignored for something superficial, like some beauty competition. A clear example of this, I honestly believe, is seen in the plethora of beauty pageants being developed here in Jamaica for every and any possible thing. From my own experience the problem of being just intelligent could easily become a prison for one.

But if its a compulsory thing and we have to choose one and then the other as part of my daily life. I believe I would have to be super intelligent during the day and transform to be super beautiful in the night, where I’ll be the socialite of the town.

The inaugural Jamaica Blog Awards held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, Sunday, January 16, 2010 was nothing short of a spectacular event that saw bloggers represented some 15 categories outfitted in swanky fashion to hide their nervousness and chitty-chatted in person outside of their usual social media world.

After a splendid cocktail it’s almost certain that all bloggers got for themselves some new followers to their twitter accounts or finally got an opportunity to meet persons they have been interacting with via social media.

When I entered the area dedicated for the cocktails I had to, like all guest, do the formalities of “check-in” at a counter provided. Just after saying, ‘Leethan Grandison‘ I heard a saccharine female voice questioned, “You are @Lgrandison”. Collecting my programme, I turned and flare a smile for the beauty that stood behind me hoping to recognize her by face. I didn’t.  Within a plit of two seconds she said “I’m @mamachell”, and there started my first conversation for the night.

Sometimes i don’t know why i follow these things but i do. This one got me upset though! Fully Time loser Raz-B the former B2K singer been popped a beef with Chris Brown over some Rihanna comment, which saw Chris using some anti-gay slurs. Chris Brown have however apologize, but the Fully Loser Raz-B to my knowledge lives on seeking attention.

Chris Brown's exit came after a week's worth of Twitter-based ranting about stores not stocking his new album Graffiti.

I say this Raz B dude is seeking attention because ever since we in internet land hear that Rude Boy singer Rihanna and her baseball boyfriend Matt Kemp split up, this dude been tweeting nonstop about his love for her.

Chris Brown who in the argument with Raz B used anti-gay slurs tried to clear the air today:

Yesterday was an unfortunate lack in judgment sparked by public Twitter attacks from Raz B, who was bent on getting attention. Words cannot begin to express how sorry and frustrated I am over what transpired publicly on Twitter,” Brown told TMZ. “I have learned over the past few years to not condone or represent acts of violence against anyone. Molestation and victims of such acts are not to be taken lightly; and for my comments I apologize — from the bottom of my heart.”

Without getting into much more here is what transpired.

“This is the video that made me fall for @Rihanna ummmm I’m gonna chew you up a bubblegum,” Raz tweeted, adding a link to Ri’s “Rude Boy” video.

It’s an odd way to try to get someone like Rihanna’s attention, but Raz has been doing a lot of strange sh*t lately.

He continued his Rihanna tweets, then out of nowhere dissed singers Eric Benet and Chris Brown.

“I’m sitting here thinking how can n*ggas like @ebenet & @ChrisBrown disrespect women as intelligent as @HalleBerry11 and @Rihanna.”

That was all it took to get Breezy fired up, he quickly shot back, “@razb2k n*gga you want attention! Grow up n*gga!!! D*ck in the booty a** lil boy.”

From that point on the two exchanged insults back and forth.

Raz: @Chrisbrown Do you hit your boyfriend @andre_merritt like you do your women?

And that was that, it’s crazy how twitter gets people to say things they would normally never say in public.

The following article is a story originally written by ASHLEE VANCE and MIGUEL HELFT both of the New York Times, published on December 8, 2010.

A hacking free-for-all has exploded on the Web, and Facebook and Twitter are stuck in the middle.

On Wednesday, anonymous hackers took aim at companies perceived to have harmed WikiLeaks after its release of a flood of confidential diplomatic documents. MasterCard, Visa and PayPal, which had cut off people’s ability to donate money to WikiLeaks, were hit by attacks that tried to block access to the companies’ Web sites and services.

To organize their efforts, the hackers have turned to sites like Facebook and Twitter. That has drawn these Web giants into the fray and created a precarious situation for them.

Both Facebook and Twitter — but particularly Twitter — have received praise in recent years as outlets for free speech. Governments trying to control the flow of information have found it difficult to block people from voicing their concerns or setting up meetings through the sites.

At the same time, both Facebook and Twitter have corporate aspirations that hinge on their ability to serve as ad platforms for other companies. This leaves them with tough public relations and business decisions around how they should handle situations as politically charged as the WikiLeaks developments.

Some internet experts say the situation highlights the complexities of free speech issues on the Internet, as grassroots Web companies evolve and take central control over what their users can make public. Clay Shirky, who studies the Internet and teaches at New York University, said that although the Web is the new public sphere, it is actually “a corporate sphere that tolerates public speech.”

Marcia Hofmann, a lawyer at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, said, “Any Internet user who cares about free speech or has a controversial or unpopular message should be concerned about the fact that intermediaries might not let them express it.”

She added, “Your free speech rights are only as strong as the weakest intermediary.”

The problem came into on Wednesday, when a group calling itself Anonymous started Operation Payback spent much of the day posting notes on Facebook and Twitter that told followers which companies to single out and that documented hacking successes.

But Facebook banned one of the group’s pages, saying that using the site to organize hacking attacks like that violated its terms of use. The group went to Twitter to complain.

A Facebook spokesman issued a statement saying that the company was “sensitive to content that includes pornography, bullying, hate speech, and threats of violence” and would “take action on content that we find or that’s reported to us that promotes unlawful activity.”

In an interview Wednesday morning, Joe Sullivan, Facebook’s chief security officer, addressed WikiLeaks’s own presence on the site. He said the company had not received any official requests to disable pages or accounts associated with the WikiLeaks organization.

Facebook generally resists requests by governments or advocacy groups to take down material if that material is not illegal or does not violate Facebook’s terms of service, which prohibit attacks on individuals or incitements to violence.

“Facebook is a place where people come to talk about all sorts of things, including controversial topics,” Mr. Sullivan said. It was not clear whether anyone had asked Facebook to take down the Operation Payback page.

Twitter allowed the Operation Payback account to stay active most of Wednesday. But the group’s account was disabled late in the day, after it posted a link to a file that provided thousands of consumer credit card numbers, according to a person with direct knowledge of the situation.

A Twitter spokesman declined to discuss the details of the situation.

“We don’t comment about the specific actions we take around user accounts,” he said.

The company is not overly concerned about hackers’ attacking Twitter’s site, he said, explaining that it faces security issues all the time and has technology to deal with the situation.

Twitter is in a particularly delicate situation because its founders have celebrated their service’s role in political protest and free speech. They have not been shy about trying to capitalize on the good will engendered by playing that role.

WikiLeaks’s own Twitter account remains active, and it is the group’s main channel for reaching supporters and the media.

Last week, fell into a similar position when it decided to stop storing files for WikiLeaks. Advocates of WikiLeaks complained that was bowing to political pressure to cut the organization from its Web services. An spokesman said the company was simply banning an organization that had violated its terms of service by trying to distribute documents it did not own.

The last week has given rise to a hacking war in which groups have blocked access to WikiLeaks’s Web sites by bombarding them with requests.

And now the WikiLeaks supporters have responded in kind, flying the freedom of speech banner as the motivation for their actions.
