Prime Minister Bruce Golding has just concluded an emergency meeting at the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) where he was updated of the damages caused by the heavy rains from Tropical Depression # 16.
The Prime Minister who cut short his overseas assignment , is now preparing to tour the island by helicopter, for a first hand view of the damage done to sections of the island now experiencing heavy rainfalls. Prior to this morning’s meeting at ODPEM, the Prime Minister accompanied by several government officials, visited the Sandy Park area in Kingston where there were reports of a family being washed away and one person confirmed dead.
The Prime Minister has urged citizens to stay home and secure life and property as best as possible.

Once I am through with the aerial survey that we are doing now, I will be in a position to give you a more updated position in terms of what additional measures we will have to take to ensure that our people are safe.”
Meanwhile the Minister of Information, Daryl Vaz has called a special press conference for 2:00pm this afternoon at Jamaica House during which the media will be given a full update on the weather situation and actions to be taken .
This morning’s meeting was attended by several government Ministers including Information, Transport and Works, Water and Housing and representatives from the Ministries of Labour and Social Security and Health as well as the related government agencies.
