Grammy Award-winning Haitian singer, Wyclef Jean, claims his life has been threatened over his proposed bid to run for President of his homeland.

The Associated Press on Wednesday claimed in a report that Jean sent them a series of emails from a secret location in Haiti, claiming he is in hiding because of death threats following his Presidential bid announcement.

But he revealed few details about who may be responsible for the alleged intimidation or of the threats insisting that he continues like the other 32 candidates, to await Haiti`s electoral commission decision on who qualifies to run or not.

Haiti`s electoral commission has postponed its ruling on who will be allowed to run in November`s presidential elections, leaving the candidacy of the 33 contenders, including Jean`s uncle, former ambassador Ray Joseph, in limbo.

The decision could not come Friday with the publication of the final list of approved presidential candidates.

At issue is a disagreement on the country`s electoral law which stipulates that candidates must hold a Haitian passport and have five consecutive years of residence in Haiti, among other requirements.

Jean`s candidacy has so far been criticized by Hollywood actor Sean Penn, former Fugees bandmate, Pras and current Miss Haiti Universe contender, Sarodj Bertin.
