The Jamaican Government has paid US$19 million to Caribbean Airlines in compensation for airline tickets.

Chief Executive Officer and President of Air Jamaica Bruce Nobles says the sum is money that has already been collected for passengers who have bought tickets to travel on Air Jamaica after April 30.

At that time, all of air Jamaica’s employees will be made redundant.

The new entity that will operate during the transition period of six months to year is a company called CAL /Air Jamaica Transition Limited.

The company will retain 1,000 former employees on contract period of either three or six months after which a performance appraisal will be conducted to determine continued employment.
