Simon Cowell’s mother Julie has been speaking about her joy for her son’s new found love with Afghanistan-born make-up artist Mezhgan Hussainy.
Speaking from her Brightonhome, she said: “I knew it was serious when Simon said he had something important to tell me” reveals Julie, 84. “I asked if it was good or bad and he replies, ‘That depends which way you look at it.’ ‘Just tell me,’ I said. He explained that he had asked Mezhgan to move in with him. Although girlfriends had stayed with him in the past, he had never done that before. This seems to make it official.”
“What baffled me most was the complete turnaround in my son,” she continues. “He has always insisted, ‘I’m fine as I am, mother. I’m not going to get committed to a marriage and I certainly don’t want children.’ I used to reply, ‘You don’t know, you’ve never had them.’”
On her potential new daughter-in-law, Julie remarks “Mezhgan is absolutely lovely. She’s very pretty with a gorgeous figure, too. I’ve met her before, of course, at Simon’s shows, but only recently did I spend time with her as Simon’s new girlfriend.”
“The three of us went out last weekend to see the West End musical Jersey Boys and then to a wonderful Italian restaurant called Scalini. We sat at a discreet corner table and Simon held hands with her most of the evening” Julie recalls. “I couldn’t believe it when I saw him. He looks exceptionally happy and there is such a glow about him. I thought, my goodness me, he’s had to reach 50 to reach this stage. I think turning 50 has made him reassess his life.”
But it seems that Julie couldn’t be happier for her son “Now I really think marriage and fatherhood for Simon are going to happen. I would like to see an official engagement, a marriage and yes, then grandchildren. Mezghan is very family orientated, so she is ideal for him” Julie continues.
On the wedding, she reflects “I don’t think he will go for an over-the-top wedding; just close friends and family.”
Simon and his mother have a notoriously close relationship, but Julie reveals “He asks my opinion on many things – except his love life. He certainly doesn’t ask for my approval of his girlfriends and I wouldn’t dream of trying to influence him. It’s not my place. I’ve got on with most of his girlfriends. But there was one many years ago who was a bit of a madam and didn’t fit in with the family. That’s the only time I mentioned how I felt. Simon didn’t stay with her very long.”
Luckily for Mezhgan, Julie seems just as smitten with her as Simon does.
