Show promoters in Guyana and St. Lucia are planning to sue Dancehall Artiste Vybz Kartel for a series of no-show over the weekend. Reports are that Kartel who heads the Portmore Empire, was scheduled to appear on a concert in Guyana from which they were to move to St. Lucia to perform on the last evening of a three-day event called Love Fest.
Reports are that some members of the artistes Portmore Empire family turned up. Initial allegations framed that Kartel missed his flight to Guyana twice, following which the promoters were asked to send a charter. This was obliged but the plane sat on the tarmac on Saturday.
Meantime Conscious Minds Promotions, which was behind the event, in Guyana are alleged to have suffered huge losses as they were forced to cancel the show. The Sunday Stabroek in Guyana noted that a press release from the promoters apologized for the no-show and advise that persons who purchased tickets for the show will receive full refunds beginning Tuesday at all ticketing locations.
In an interview with the Jamaica Observer St Lucia promoter Andrew Hayles said that he had spent over US$20,000.00 on plane fare just to ensure that Kartel would be present for his show, Love Fest, which has built up a solid reputation during its eight years.
The local paper quoted the promoter saying Vybz Kartel never got in touch with them, and that they learn that he would not turn up after hearing of a video posted by the artiste on Youtube. The video blog stated: “we a mek the people dem know from now that we won’t be attending Love Fest in St Lucia … but it’s no fault of the promoters or the promotion which is Hot FM … it’s just circumstances beyond our control.”
In the meantime the promoters highlighted that they have started the process to recover their loss.
