Remembering the Hauntingly Relateable Singer – Amy Winehouse
Janis Winehouse, mother of 5 time Grammy winning artiste Amy Winehouse was quoted today in British tabloids saying she believed it was “only a matter of time” before her daughter died. The 27-year-old singer was found dead at her London home in Camden on Saturday.
Janis told The Sunday Mirror: “She seemed out of it. But her passing so suddenly still hasn’t hit me”. The mother joins millions around the world who weren’t completely surprised at the beehive hairdo and old-fashioned sailor tattoo singer made famous by her “Back to Black“ Grammy Award Album.
The media report noted that Police said the cause of her death is being treated as “unexplained,” thus rejecting speculation that she died from a drug overdose as “inappropriate,” as purported by social and new media groups. A post-mortem is expected Monday or Tuesday.
The outsized personality and unclassifable talented singer wasn’t afraid of expressing herself and was often times a pacer with attention grabbing headlines from run-ins with the law, embarrassing videos & pictures leaks, stints in hospitals & clinics because of her fixation to alcohol and drugs.
Winehouse who summed up her entire career and life in her 2006 sing, “Rehab“, belting “They tried to make me go to rehab, but I said ‘no, no, no,’” was expected to make a comeback this year. However after a first stop in Belgrade, where booed and jeered, the singer flew home and cancelled what was to be the beginning of her European Tour. Her management noted that she was using the time to recover.
Though Winehouse was always in the spotlight, particularly for her troubled lifestyle, she will be remembered for profoundly beautiful and soul-stirring voice which was hauntingly relateable. Amy’s death however sends a message that addiction is a deadly disease.
As @lesanto said in a tweet: Before you judge, please show me a person who chose to ruin their life – rather than a person who was ruined by life. Can you? #amywinehouse

Due to weather conditions, Magnum Kings and Queens’ Final Stage Show, which was scheduled for Saturday, June 25th (today) has been postponed, and will instead be held next week Saturday, at the KIA Parking Lot, 3A Chelsea Avenue.
Patrons are asked to retain tickets for June 25 as they are valid for the ultimate season finale next Saturday. The show will start at its usual 9:30p.m. slot, but patrons are encouraged to get there as early as 8:30 p.m. The final show is expected to be extended to 2 hours.
In a statement issued on it Facebook Page, Magnum Kings & Queens of Dancehall, sought to assure patrons/fans of the show that it wasn’t a deliberate attempt to drag out the show.
“Last year, the producers and sponsors looked for a suitable indoor venue, one that could accommodate the size of the MKQ stage and set and that gives the perfect vibe for the MKQ live audience.
There is indeed a shortage of adequate indoor venues and the only one found that was suitable was not available on Saturday nights. The move to KIA, even though it is outdoor, was to accommodate the growing crowd and for better security.”
NEW MUSIC: Beyonce Priemere Breakup tune ‘Best Thing I Never Had ‘ – second song for album ’4′
Hip-hop artiste Beyonce has release a brand new single Best Thing I Never Had, the latest in an installment of songs for her anticipated summer album 4. This June 1st release of Best Thing I Never Had comes on the heels of the recent Run the World (Girls), which still have music lovers and fans of the singer expressing different opinions as to its superstar impact and after 5 weeks on the Billboard 100 chart is rank at 50.
Best Thing I Never Had however has this catchy chorus and this spunk about it, which would explains the Billboard 100 recording as getting one of the greatest airplay and sales gains this week.
One line from B’s Best Thing I Never Had apart from the chorus that is literally stuck in my head is: “When I think of the time I almost loved you/ You showed your ass and I saw the real you”).
Here is the words to the chorus i know you’re gonna wanna have:
“I wanted you bad/ I’m so through with it/ Cuz honestly you turned out to be the best thing I never had/ You turned out to be the best thing I never had/ And I’m gon’ always be the best thing you never had/ I bet it sucks to be you right now.”

Spotlight on the Multi-Talented Sanjay
Fresh from completing a degree in psychology at the Florida International University, Sanjay returned to Jamaica some years ago to pursue music which is his heartbeat and one true love. Many viewed his musical ambition with skeptism, he had to be an educated uptown yute with too much time on his hands or a wannabe DJ whose interest would burn out fast. Some may even cite his current work in TV as a presenter and producer as proof of him not being serious about his music.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Sanjay, a long term planner who is always looking towards the bigger picture, is grateful for his opportunities and experience learning and collaborating with industry talents such as Luciano, Vybes Kartel, Tami Chynn, Aidonia and Ce’Cile. The knowledge he received from working with producers like Christopher Birch, Steven McGregor, Mikey Bennett and Arif Cooper has helped to broaden his musical horizons considerably and inspired him to learn about all aspects of the music.
His time behind the camera as a producer for TV shows such as The Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall has given him a keen appreciation for the value of team work and good production work. His stint before the camera as host for TVJ’s Intense has introduced his charismatic personality into the homes and hearts of thousands of Jamaicans.
Sanjay’s dedication to the industry is even more evident by the fact that he has now started his own record label ‘Portland Cottage Productions’ named for his place of birth and from this label has released his latest single the very infectious ‘love the way you move’ for which he performs lead vocals alongside upcoming singer J Edge. The video for ‘love the way you move’ was directed by Ian Guthrie and Carl Durrant.
‘Love the way you move is my way of saying to Jamaica that music is still and will always be my number one passion’ Sanjay stated. ‘I am serious about getting better and working with genuinely talented people like J Edge and most importantly I wanted this single to show all the people who have supported me from the beginning that I am appreciative of the love and acceptance no matter what hat I am wearing,’ he concluded
